As May 20th "520"(is a homophone for "I love you" in Chinese) approaches, the popular zebra crossing in the Wuyi Square area of Changsha has been updated with a new look. A massive painting of gardenias has appeared at the center of the intersection, and the phrase "Flowers all the way, all are beautiful sights" is attracting people to stop, take photos, and check in.

"The scent of gardenias fills Changsha; happiness comes from love!" One touching confession after another and dynamic heart animations appeared on the big screens in the city center. Rows of giant "roses" lined the streets, adorned with eye-catching slogans like "Feel the wind of Changsha, chase the light of love." The sense of ceremony in Changsha's streets was palpable. At the small flower cart at the Wuyi Square intersection, many pedestrians stopped to queue for gardenias, capturing this unexpected delight on their phones. Ms. Zhang, visiting Changsha for the second time, exclaimed, "When it comes to romance, Changsha has nailed it." Mr. Zhou, out shopping with his whole family, enthusiastically participated in the "520" flash flower-giving event. Excitedly, he picked up a flower and gave it to his wife, saying, "'520' gives me a chance to express my love."

This year's "520" coincides with Xiaoman, one of the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms. The ancients valued Xiaoman, believing that life is best when it is "slightly full." Moreover, May 20th and 21st in the Gregorian calendar correspond to the 13th and 14th days of the lunar month, which sound like "a lifetime" in Chinese. This alignment adds a layer of romance, as the Gregorian and lunar calendars come together harmoniously.

Many residents and tourists have been swept up in Changsha's romantic atmosphere, joining the wave of "520" confessions. In our street interviews, we captured couples professing their love for each other, tourists expressing their love for Hunan cuisine, and even traffic police sharing their affection for the city of Changsha. Despite the rain, Huangxing Road Pedestrian Street was bustling with people, and the excitement didn't wane. As a newly popular "internet-famous" city in recent years, Changsha is interpreting "love" in its own unique way.

It is reported that this event is jointly organized by the Changsha Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio and Television and the Wuhan Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, with both cities, Wuhan and Changsha, collaborating romantically. At more than 40 locations in Changsha, including the Huang Xing Statue at Simenkou, the Chaozong Street check-in wall, the Binjiang Cultural Park Cultural Square, and the Taiping Street Central Theater, 100,000 gardenia flowers are being distributed for free, brimming with love.
