A polar park, the largest of its kind in Hunan, was opened in Changsha on August 18.

Located in the Changsha Ecological Zoo, the new polar park, built and operated by a private company, covers a floor area of nearly 6,800 square meters and has two exhibition areas on the first floor, showcasing polar animals and ice sculptures respectively.

The park currently has 16 penguins, five sea lions, eight Arctic wolves, and 20 sharks, as well as four polar bear specimens from Canada.

Visitors can also watch jellyfish, sea turtles, and other marine life by strolling along a 22-meter-long "undersea tunnel" at the basement level of the park.

长沙生态动物园极地馆18日开馆

8月18日上午，湖南省规模最大的以极地动物为主题的海洋动植物集中展示馆——长沙生态动物园极地馆开馆。

极地馆位于长沙生态动物园内东南区域，目前馆内已有企鹅16只、海狮7只、海豹5只、北极狼8只、北极狐10只、鲨鱼20条。

长沙生态动物园极地馆总投资额超6000万元，总建筑面积约6796.47平方米。馆内地上一层分为极地动物展示区和冰雕艺术展示区，地下一层设有22米长全景海底隧道、水母展示区等。

据极地馆负责人汤海明介绍，极地馆从加拿大引进了部分极地动物，将根据不同动物各自的生活习性调节其活动区域的温度和湿度，打造适宜动物的生活环境。

8月18日至8月31日，极地馆试运营期间游客可通过线上途经购买极地馆电子门票。9月1日起，长沙市生态动物园窗口也可购买极地馆纸质门票。
